Movie Soundtrack Wednesday #14 – Brooklyn

Set in her native country, Enniscorthy, Southeastern Ireland, ‘Brooklyn’ (directed by John Crowley and based on the novel of the same name by the Irish writer Colm Tóibín) is the story of a girl, Eilis, who in the early 1950s leaves for New York, to escape from a life without job prospects, leaving her mother and a sister, for a secure job and hope for a future. A story like so many and deeply present, one of the millions passed through Ellis Island, she leaves with a heart and mind full of emotions: with the fear of the first time away from her family, the excitement of the unknown, the hope of a future in a place where you soon feel at home again. For Eilis, emigration coincides with the end of adolescence, with the discovery of love and people like her in search of their own pioneering conquest of a unexplored land.
