Every now and then, we hear something drawing on that energy which is too good not to shout about. That’s exactly what we found with the new VELOX track. If this is the first time you’re coming across VELOX too, then we urge you to stop what you’re doing and listen now. Taylor Quick, also known as VELOX, is an Isle of Wight-born, London-based drum and bass artist, who has a very promising future ahead after founding the popular label FootworkDnB, becoming resident at Nottingham’s Encrypted Sound and drawing 5,000 followers on SoundCloud.
VELOX came to LDN’s attention with his 2020 track ‘Carburettor’, featuring Welsh vocalist Wiz MC, and from the very start the vibes feel epic. Like a film soundtrack filtered through the prism of rapid beats, it’s energetic, but varied in style, and dark and deep too. Starting with gentle piano and the words “She’s got a permanent residency inside of my head”, the track is highly reminiscent of some of Netsky’s projects. Like many love songs, this one is a retrospective of a failing relationship; the vocalist a ‘carburettor’, which keeps the engine working, but it’s not enough to fix a breaking-down car.
Enthralling, uplifting and enveloping, if we weren’t already itching for clubs to reopen, we at least can enjoy the tunes this artist has to offer. Becoming one of the first drum and bass acts to be featured in LDN, we promise you’ll not be disappointed with his music.
