Summer always comes around with a few things in tow. Heatwaves, delicious icecream, the odd sunburn and, as we think most importantly, new fantastic music. Down below are some of the phenomenal hits that we’ve been loving the most the past few days and weeks, starting from an insanely catchy EDM hit that basically screams summer, to a mellow synth mix that is perfect for those warm summer nights.
ZEDD ft. Jasmine Thompson – Funny
Electronic music star Zedd has returned with his first new track of the year, and it arrives with a fun lockdown-oriented video featuring plenty of dogs, the odd laptop shutdown in the middle of a call and even a surprise appearance by UK sweetheart Lewis Capaldi. Teaming up with the rising singer-songwriter Jasmine Thompson, ‘Funny’ is a more-reserved track for the Grammy-winning producer and DJ, but it’s no less as lively and fun to listen and dance to, making it the perfect summer anthem of 2020 (if you just forget about the not so summery pandemic).

MyKey – Hand Me Down
Mikey Ambrosino, better known as indie-pop kid MyKey, seems like the perfect DIY genius, being a singer, songwriter, musician, producer, engineer, and creator all in one, who taps into a deep sense of empathy and emotion in every single of his bedroom pop productions. In 2019, the now in Los Angeles based 24-year-old artist turned heads with his playful single ‘Was It Something I Said’, which now has over 8 million Spotify streams, after practically being discovered through a Jubilee video on YouTube. The talented singer has now returned with his heartfelt new track ‘Hand Me Down’ to once again take over the hearts of all the indie lovers out there by storm.

Nothing But Thieves – Real Love Song (Alternative Version)
UK’s indie rock sweethearts Nothing But Thieves once again prove their immense talent and their ability to master any genre there is with the release of an alternative version of their oh so popular hit single ‘Real Love Song’. Stripping away the idealistic, romantic nature of love and instead highlighting a more realistic and painful reality experienced by many is what makes the track so special and with the new version being a darker, more eerie twin of the original, it makes for the perfect song to listen to at midnight while slowly, seemingly slipping into an alternate, darker dimension of life and love.

Saint Raymond – Love This Way
Nottingham’s Saint Raymond, aka Callum Burrows, returns with his brand new single ‘Love This Way’, the newest track to preview his forthcoming second album, which is set to land in early 2021. The young singer-songwriter has spent the past two years writing constantly, honing ideas in the studio and exploring and finding his own sound. Likewise, the newest single feels like a big synth, indie-pop anthem which demonstrates the evolution in Saint Raymond’s sound, that moves in and out in a lush landscape of emotion and pop infected soul. Glowing with DIY warmth, ‘Love This Way’ seems like the perfect appetizer for an album that is set to push the singer right to the top.

Dominic Fike – Cancel Me
Florida’s most promising young artist Dominic Fike surprised us all with his debut album ‘What Could Possibly Go Wrong’. Fike is not one to label his music and quite frankly there’s no way possible to do this. His music is a mix between indie ballads, up-tempo rap with dance-pop rhythms underneath. One of the catchiest tracks on the album is ‘Cancel Me’. Not only is it a reference to the on-going cancel culture we live in but also all the glitz and glam the popstar – LA lifestyle brings with it. Since Dominic Fike’s start in the business, he has gathered attention from every corner of the world. Crowned as the king of the Gen Z population, he has collaborated with several established musicians like Brockhampton’s Kevin Abstract and mega popstar Halsey whilst also establishing his fashionista persona with a collab collection with Marc Jacobs.

Cub Sport – Like Nirvana – Be Your Man
Cub Sport’s fourth album ‘Like Nirvana’ might be their most interesting album yet. Who ever thought that a band can’t keep the world entertained with new and eccentric music time and time again couldn’t be more wrong. The Brisbane band has been enticing new fans ever since their debut album ‘This Is Our Vice’ in 2016. On ‘Like Nirvana’ Cub Sport effortlessly switch between dream-synth-pop to powerful ballads. One of the standout songs is ‘Be Your Man’ it translates every emotion known to mankind in just 3 minutes and 30 seconds. Known to be a band who take risks they somehow mastered the craft of timeless structures. On ‘Be Your Man’ they dial it all back and create a masterpiece in the simplicity of the complex world of pop ballads. Cub Sport’s latest album is about diving into the unknown and coming out stronger even though all the obstacles in your way seem to hinder you from greatness. ‘Like Nirvana’ is not just an album but a piece of defiance.
