Words: Andrea Naess

Sugar, spice, and all things nice! February is the month of love, and as we’re getting closer to V-Day, NMF wants to give you tips on what to play on the special day. So, make sure to stick around for Adam Harpaz and Pastel Jungle, shy martin, SUICIDE SILENCE, Amber Arcades and Here at Last.

#1 Adam Harpaz x Pastel Jungle – Other Than Orange

Australian Adam Harpaz teamed up with Pastel Jungle for an astounding first time-ever collab in ‘Other Than Orange’, and we think it’s the perfect tune to play on a first date. The artist  describes  the song as one where they “wanted to capture that oddly captivating sensation of replaying those perfect memories, so often poisoned by the idea that you might never experience them the same way again”. Something to think about when you’re making unforgettable memories on Tuesday. Adam has been supported by Daily Telegraph and been played on the esteemed Australian radio station ABC’s triple j, and British Pastel Jungle has been featured on BBC Music Introducing. However, they have both relocated to the Australian Hippie small-town Byron Bay. Go check out this gem now.

#2 shy martin – late night thoughts

Our next pick for this week is dreamy, heartwarming and offers a relaxing voice accompanied by gentle guitar-playing. The tune is called ‘late night thoughts’ by Sweed shy martin. The song is the title track of her forthcoming album, which is set to release on May 19th. The album includes topics like mental health issues, recovery, and a search for happiness. We think ‘late night thoughts’ sounds like what daydreaming of your crush feels like: playful, innocent, and just pure ecstasy. So please, enjoy this peach this weekend and fall in love with it as much as we did…

#3 SUICIDE SILENCE – Dying Life

“Empty is everything, who is there to reach back?” screams vocalist Eddie Hermida from SUICIDE SILENCE, in their latest ‘Dying Life’. The deathcore four-piece’s latest song, taken from the album ‘Remember…You Must Die’, is one that is perhaps a bit hard to find a romantic link to, however romantic gestures are objective, so for a metal fan, going to see this band on a date would be ideal! Wink wink. The song is very catchy, it’s hard not to start head-banging! On the song SUICIDE SILENCE says: “Our environment is enveloped in death and constant change, as is the vessel we live in,”. Out now via Century Media Records.

#4 Amber Arcades – True Love

“Billie Eilish-meets-Julia Holter soundworld” is how MOJO describes our next artist Amber Arcades on her latest single ‘True Love’. The song is seductive, mysterious and leaves you craving more -AKA the ultimate Valentine’s Day song…The 34-year-old, originally from Holland, describes her thought process while writing: “For me, emotions and feelings are almost a kind of a magic thing, in the way that they’re able to change the way we experience reality. That idea runs deep throughout the record, including the song True Love”. So, for all psychedelic pop lovers – this is a track to look out for.

#5 Here at Last – Bloodshot

Are you also like us? Have you been missing those good old boybands? What happened to them? One Direction, N’Sync and all that good stuff? Well, worry not because Here at Last with ‘Bloodshot’ will fill the void. The 5-piece from Reading have gained an impressive 3 million followers on TikTok, and 100 million likes across their videos. They have released their first EP, and newest single, Bloodshot. We think it’s a catchy, cheeky and feel-good tune. The band will play Shepard’s Bush Empire on Friday February 17th, so bring your gal pals and have the best late Galentine’s day.
