Welcome to LDN’s Monday Movers! Each week we’ll post a track to get the pulse rate up a little. Enjoy!
Who are we talking about this week?
Mothica is an American pop singer and songwriter. After independently releasing her own music, she achieved a breakthrough in June of 2020 with her viral hit “VICES”, which went viral on TikTok.
With over 200 million global streams across her catalogue, and collaborations with artists like nothing, nowhere, Royal & the Serpent, and MEMBA, Mothica finally released her newest song, ‘CASUALTY’, available via Heavy Heath Records.
Why do we like it?
The pop sound and the gritty lyrics suggest that the ‘CASUALTY’ is all about struggle – a physical and mental one and the recovery that Mothica had to go through in order to live a better life: “I won’t be a casualty/A product of my agony/Break my bloodline”.
The emotional tiredness the artist felt are best described in her press release: “I was thinking about how many things in my life were set up to destroy me. With over two years sober, this song was an empowered response, that I didn’t want to let these inherited destructive diseases control me anymore,” she said. “It’s one of those songs that just sets my soul on fire in the best way.”
It’s hard to live with self-destructive behavior, while you’re trying to live a fulfilling life with no regrets. But instead of acting as a victim, Mothica has chosen a different way of fighting her demons, by creating a song that could inspire others, break the bad cycle and show that she could overcome any obstacles that she faces.
