Nook’s Cranny #8 – Animal Crossing: New Horizons x Sanrio

Words: Mio Farrenden

The crossover of a lifetime is finally within reach, the ‘Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ collaboration with Japanese entertainment giant Sanrio will be in the UK very soon!

It may sound too good to be true, we thought so too, but it is real. ‘Animal Crossing’ is collaborating with Sanrio to bring all new villagers and items to the game. This is all happening via the power of Amiibo cards. There are six cards, one for each villager, that you can scan into your Switch like any other villager Amiibo. Once scanned, the Sanrio villager will enter the campsite and the items and clothing will be available at your Nook Stop! Luckily, you don’t need to add the villager to your island to get the items; some of them have very particular aesthetics…

The pre-orders went live for these cards in the UK a while ago but, of course, they’re all sold out. Not to fear though! We were given ‘late March’ as an estimate for release so they should be with us for good very soon.

In the meantime, here’s a little bit more information on what you’ll be getting.

The six villagers will represent one Sanrio character each and they all come with the accompanying set. For example, Rilla is Hello Kitty’s representative and once scanned in you’ll have access to all the Hello Kitty ware! The other villagers and characters we have include Marty for Pompompurin, Étoile representing Little Twin Stars, Chai for Cinnamoroll, Chelsea for My Melody, and Toby representing Kerokerokeroppi

Rilla, Marty, and Chai come with 11 furniture items and four clothing items each, Étoile comes with 10 furniture items and six clothing items, Chelsea comes with 10 furniture items and four clothing items, and Toby brings 11 furniture items and five clothing items. As you can see from the images, they are all incredibly adorable.

Keep an eye out on the Official Nintendo Store for updates as we’re sure they’ll sell out very quickly. Other stores we recommend tabbing include GAME and Amazon, so consider bookmarking them in advance.
