With demo Juicebox Tantrum out in the world and a single on the way, resident LDN photographer Keira Oldfield captures London-based experimental trio Smotheereens ahead of the End of Semester Showcase at the O2 Academy.
London-based experimental post-punk trio Smothereens is all about the noise, noise, noise. Drawing inspiration but sounding nothing like Daft Punk, My Bloody Valentine, and Men I Trust, their sonic identity is eclectic.
As young adults, their music reflects themes of disorientation, connection, and desire playing with the juxtaposition of poetic and heavily metaphoric lyrics and weaving melodic instrumentals, supported by drum machines. Currently working on an EP, they spend most Mondays in the studio messing with pedals and discussing the mundane and philosophical. The band comprises of Lara, Elliot, and Khalid; a trio of good friends who started making music together as part of a BIMM-based project.
