The 95th Academy Awards ceremony, hosted by the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, was a momentous occasion for the film industry and a platform for showcasing stunning fashion ensembles.
This year’s event deviated from the tradition that has dragged on since 1961, replacing the usual “red carpet” with a “champagne carpet”. From Hollywood’s A-listers to fashion houses and stylists, many collaborated for weeks or months to present dazzling creations.
Let’s look at what the readers and editors of LDN Magazine caught the most eye.

One of the performers who made a last-minute appearance at the ceremony was Lady Gaga, nominated for Best Original Song for ‘Hold My Hand’ from Top Gun: Maverick. She donned a striking black gown from Versace’s autumn/winter 2023 collection, featuring a dropped waistline skirt and a sheer, panelled bodice with the iconic Medusa head logo as a golden clasp at the waist. To complete her look, she accessorised with stunning jewellery from Tiffany & Co., including a breathtaking archival necklace from the 1950s crafted from platinum and diamonds.

Another nominee for Best Original Song for Wakanda Forever ballad ‘Lift Me Up’, Rihanna, appeared at the Oscars wearing a semi-sheer Alaïa outfit, including a low-slung leather skirt and train paired with a strapped bustier. She accessorised her look with Moussaieff High Jewellery and paired it with strappy heels. She proudly flaunted her baby bump, proving that pregnancy and popstar edge can go hand in hand.

A stylish transformation of Austin Butler to Elvis Presley in Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis, nominated in eight categories, including Best Picture and Best Actor for Austin himself, brought Elvis to look to the Oscars. Butler’s look was completed with a sleek, dapper black suit featuring subtle nods to Elvis, such as the stiff, padded shoulders. He sported Nashville-inspired Saint Laurent heels that perfectly matched the young Elvis Presley’s style.

As one of the standout Irish stars at this year’s Oscars, Jessie Buckley, an exceptionally talented actress and singer, starred in an intense and unsettling film, Women Talking, the Best Adapted Screenplay category winner. Buckley showed off her impeccable fashion sense by confidently wearing a glitzy gothic look. At the awards ceremony, she stunned in a long-sleeved gown made of sheer lace by Rodarte. Complementing her outfit were pieces of stunning Chopard jewellery.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe had yet to make its mark at the Academy Awards until Angela Bassett’s historic nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, as the first actor to earn an Oscars nod for a Marvel film role. Her exquisite taste in fashion was evident at the award show, where she donned a stunning deep purple Moschino gown with a striking, bubbly neckline and a trumpet silhouette. She accessorised with a circular bag and a snake necklace.
